LIGHTING UP PEOPLE’S LIVES AND GIVING CHILDREN A BRIGHTER FUTURE

Our Impact Stories

Kavipriya's One of Our Brightest Student

In the wake of the Civil War in Sri Lanka, a young girl Kavipriya, a shining star at BMF, has lost her home – it was destroyed by the war actions.

As a result, her entire family of six had to find shelter in an old wooden hut, see below. It was supposed to be a temporary measure, but they endured a life in it for 7 years.

Eventually the government arranged a house – a decade after the war had ended – though with no electricity, which made life quite tough.

During the 2021 Walking Campaign our team raised funds which helped install the electricity in Kavipriya’s new home. This supported the whole family with their well-being and gave Kavipriya a better chance at excelling in her studies.

On the BMF programme, she’d shown a keen interest in English and always remained organised and turned up on time, sitting at the front and engaging with the tutor.

In 2023, we are raising money again to gather funding for new education centres in Harrow, London – here is our justgiving page
